People in an inclusive society
We are coming together to celebrate the new network for disability support providers, to explore how inclusion is happening within our community and to ask 'Are we fostering an inclusive society?'
The NZDSN Conference Committee announces a call for papers and presentations from individuals or groups who might wish to contribute.
We encourage people with a disability to participate/present at the conference.
Applications can be made to the committee for funding assistance.
Purpose
The conference seeks to explore the following concepts:
- Being: Reflecting the now, what does life offer to disabled people in today's society, what are the limitations to full participation, how do we enhance opportunity, what are some examples of success and some things learned
- Belonging: When you are missed when you are not there, a sense of belonging in society has occurred, the person has been supported to the extent needed to be successful
- Becoming: Having a voice, being heard, being a decision maker about where to live, who to live with, relationships, having passion and hopes
Papers and presentations can include:
- Personal stories and experiences including those from people with a disability, families, support staff
- Research
- Best practice approaches
- Any topic that explores the concepts of ‘Being, Belonging and Becoming’ in society today
All papers to be submitted by 30 September 2010
Registration will be available from 30 October 2010
Selection of presentations
The Conference Committee will review all proposals submitted by the due date.
Proposals will be selected by the following criteria:
- Relevance to the conference theme
- Clarity of abstract
- Ability to address the breadth and scope of the conference audience
Full consideration will be given to all abstracts. However, not all abstracts will be able to be accommodated within the limitations of the conference.
Everyone who submits a proposal will be notified of the status of the proposal by mid-October 2010.
Presenter’s costs
All conference presenters are required to register for the conference and to cover their own costs, including registration, travel and accommodation (except for people with a disability who may receive assistance with costs if appropriate).
Proposal format
Please indicate in your proposal the time slot you would like. You may choose from 45mins, 60mins or 90mins.
Proposals submitted should:
- Not exceed 350 words
- Emphasise two or three key points that you wish to address
- Ensure that there is an explicit link to the conference theme
