New Zealand television is going digital, which offers better picture and sound quality, more channels and advanced features such as on-screen TV guides.
The first regions to go completely digital will be Hawke’s Bay and the West Coast of the South Island in September 2012. By the end of 2013, we’ll all be watching digital TV.
A 'Targeted Assistance Package' is available for people who have a TV and do not yet have Freeview, Sky or TelstraClear, and:
- who are either aged 75 and over with a Community Services Card
- are recipients of an Invalids’ Benefit or Veteran’s Pension
- or former Veteran’s Pension and Invalid’s Benefit recipients who transferred to NZ Superannuation at age 65 or over
This means those in supported living environments are eligible for assistance during the transfer to digital TV.
