NZDSN issue forum: Living Options
As part of NZDSN's sector issue initiatives, the Network has convened a series of discussion forums (also known as 'threads') to consider significant issues facing the disabilty support sector.
This network will be the area to come to for news, forums and up-and-coming events for Supported Living and Residential Services information and issues.
Living Options forum
Tuesday 15th of November at the Westpac Stadium, Wellington is the next living options forum.
Starting early at 8.30 am then moving into the hot topic of
"New Disability Support Model" - this is a provider forum with the DSS team including Jenny Moore, John Wilkinson, Gordon Boxall and Elliot Lloyd-Jones speaking.
The aim of the workshop is to enable NZDSN and DSS team to develop an on going work programme that ensures your input and feedback is taken into account as the models are developed.

Supported Living
Do we have a common understanding across the sector about Supported Living? Are we in danger of reinventing the wheel with 'new options' when we have a potential model already that can be expanded?
There is a lack of research around the work we have been doing over the past 10 years in New Zealand in terms of the practice and outcomes of supporting people to live in their own homes and participate in the life of their community, taking up opportunities equal to other New Zealanders.
We are keen for comprehensive research to be undertaken in the area and in the meantime have recently completed two nationwide surveys which can be accessed on the webite.
The first one provides feedback from 138 people across New Zealand who are receiving support from a supported living organisation.
The second survey is a snapshot of what organisations are currently doing now in terms staff training.
